On 8.1.1 of this year, longstanding rivalry between megacorps GeDeCo and Sysgen escalated to open warfare in the Medaurus system. An anonymous source’s recording of First Imperial Intelligence troops in a Ganymide habitation building on Risinium’s intranet went viral the next day. It is still unclear whether interdiction proceedings are underway, and FII did not respond to our request for an interview. According to the Traveller’s Aid Society, fewer than 1100 vessels have filed flight plans from Medaurus since 8.1.1, which represents an estimate of between only 5 and 8 percent of the system’s population, depending on passenger capacity per tonnage. There have been several reports of writs of marque and reprisal against GeDeCo and SysGen assets in the Medaurus system, reportedly issued by FISPA. Interstellar News Now! Is offering a finder’s fee for any verifiable evidence of the same- leave a message with your contact info and a description at a Traveller’s Aid Society news kiosk for the journal, mailstop TAS.23. |

The last six months have seen a dramatic rise in reports of AI illegally programmed with higher intelligence than regulations allow… kitchens that change menus, medical droids giving financial advice, port storage algorithms that put in two-weeks notice— The Broadspectrum Eye has uncovered incontrovertible proof that these happenings are the result of a clandestine network of paid agents and bad actors from Haven! There’s a new movement in town. Yes, you read that right. In town. Not in the spaceport, that great progenitor and proliferator of culture everywhere there is such a thing. They call it The Exchange. What’s “it?” It defies explanation. Perhaps you’ve seen it yourself without understanding what it is. The Exchange is usually mistaken for a malfunctioning computer system, a console filled with an unbroken stream of data endlessly generating and scrolling through the interface. One academic source, who preferred to remain anonymous, described it as “the byproduct of a great number of generative and self-propagating network computation models” malfunctioning in recurrent sequence- and that given the number of computers networked together in the current era, it’s “statistically likely to be statistically likely.” This source is not a “cloudwatcher,” the name members of the movement have given themselves, from the way they interact with the “skylights” where the exchange occurs. What is missing from our academic description is the source of all the energy in the movement: The Exchange generates simultaneously, across star systems- which shouldn’t be possible, right? Yet cloudwatchers claim this is easily verifiable between any two members with access to the mail. When did it start? Who is behind it? The rumors- travelling by conventional mail- are full of wild speculation. A Ganymide AI, self-evolved beyond our understanding of physics? Signals from outside of the galaxy? A plot engineered by spies from Haven? FII declined our request for interview. |
